Are you using a licensed patent agent?

It’s important that the person handling your invention is a registered patent agent and able to complete the full patent application process including representing you at the patent office. Unlicensed firms – including some patent lawyers – rely on “real” patent agents to complete their patent applications. For more information, read about the differences between patent agents and patent lawyers.

WHEN TO CONSIDER PATENTING

(AND WHEN NOT TO)

Before you begin the patent process we can help you validate whether your idea is actually ‘patentable’. A patentability assessment should be one of your first steps and does not need to cost thousands of dollars. – We mention this to help protect you.

Before booking a Patent Clarity Session with our team, here are a few questions to consider:

  • Do you own or are you entitled to ownership of the invention you wish to patent?

    /
  • Is your idea unique/different (in at least one way) from other products on the market?

    /
  • Is your idea useful? (Will it be easy to market/sell because it has an advantage?)

    /
  • Do you believe you can benefit financially by making the investment in the patent?

    /
  • Do you have a plan for profiting from the patented invention?

    /
