Andrew is a registered patent agent before both the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) and the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). His practice includes patent prosecution for inventions in the fields of computer software, entertainment systems, communications, analog and digital circuitry, electronics, mobile applications, and general mechanical. Andrew has over a decade of patent experience assisting a wide range of multinational companies obtain patent protection for their products.

Andrew instituted a patent program at a Calgary-based provider of technology for the hospitality industry and in less than five years took the company from zero patents and pending applications to over forty issued Canadian and U.S. patents along with over forty additional published applications pending examination.

While working for six years at a patent firm in Taiwan, Andrew helped some of the world’s most well-known high tech companies obtain U.S. patents. Employed as a patent engineer, Andrew prepared over one-hundred U.S. patent applications and drafted responses to over two-hundred and fifty USPTO Office actions on the merits, in addition to preparing pre-appeal brief conference requests, reissues, divisionals, continuations, translating Chinese patents into English and providing technical support for infringement cases.

Andrew also has significant experience assisting U.S. patent attorneys with a variety of matters including patent litigation, licensing, ex parte reexamination, invalidity opinions, infringement and non-infringement opinions, royalty payment calculations, cross-license agreements, patent design-arounds, and patent dispute mediation.

Prior to entering the field of intellectual property, Andrew worked for two years as a hardware engineer in Silicon Valley doing circuit board design and associated firmware for companies in the telecommunications industry. Andrew also participated in the co-operative education program while obtaining his Bachelor of Applied Science in Computer Engineering from Simon Fraser University and had internships debugging military radios at a defence electronics company, setting up new cell sites for a cell phone service provider, and designing and testing a custom logic analyzer for one of Canada’s flagship telecommunications and data networking equipment manufacturers.
